Roadkill

My mangled carcass lies in the middle of the road
Untouched since death called on my sweet name
Days go by while only the bugs and buzzards mourn me
Celebrating my sacrificed body that feeds their empty stomachs
My life is over and nature is thriving from its demise
Seconds still pass as if nothing ever even happened
That is the way the world is, it never stops turning
Even if a car hits you head on
The Earth won’t stop and grieve for me, it will continue to grow
No one shows up for my funeral but faintly I can hear the birds
They sing a melancholy prayer as they fly away in the clear blue sky
Slowly my soul disappears, while the sun shines on my flesh and bones.
